Workshop description

Based on the beautiful 10th Century Ramsay Psalter, Foundational is one of the major scripts that the styles we use today evolved from.

As a formal book hand, it is relatively slowly written with quite a few pen lifts, but it can easily be manipulated to suit a more free flowing modern style.

This is a good ‘brush up’ script, or for those with little or no experience. 

Kit required

• Large nibs (e.g. Speedball C2, Brause no 3, William Mitchell 2 or 2.5, Parallel Pen 3.8) or even double pencils will allow you to see exactly how the letters are constructed.  Once the basic script is understood, switching to smaller nibs is easy.
• Small nibs
• A3 layout pad or cartridge paper
• 30cm ruler
• HB pencils 1 or 2
• Eraser
• Ink of your choice
• Water jar
• Paper towel
