Two day workshop

This workshop aims to introduce a variety of skills to enable participants to design, create and colour coordinate their own unique collagraph plates and prints. It concentrates on two main disciplines: single and coloured collagraph imagery, with and without paper resists.
Participants will start by creating two unique collagraph plates each. Using a board base, they will cut into the surface before selectively adding media to achieve two multi layered, collaged print plates. |
Collagraph plates can consist of many different low-relief layers, both positive and negative spaces. By including a range of papers, tapes, textural items, gels and mediums as well as stencils and masks, complex designs can be quickly achieved.
Once the plates have been created, they will be guided through the printing process, learning the correct way to ink and rub back the plate, before running it through the etching press. |
They will also learn the correct way to prepare paper to achieve the best results and how to print using more than a single colour. Time permitting, chine collé – the art of collaging onto paper while transferring the print – will also be covered.
This is an experimental workshop where participants are encouraged to adapt their pieces through selective inking, masking and stencilling. It is suitable for those new to printmaking or those with some experience wishing to widen their skills and experiment! |
