This workshop will offer you non-traditional and non- western ways to create painterly backgrounds. During the two-day workshop you will explore the possibilities of combining both Oriental and Western approaches to create expressive calligraphic art works.
Techniques using East Asian (Chinese/Japanese) calligraphic materials such as brushes, Sumi ink/inksticks and oriental paper (kozo/mulberry) will be taught
You will learn how to prepare and mount the thin oriental paper so that it can be used for applying lettering with a broad edge nib or brush. The use of appropriate mounting media /adhesives will be discussed
A simple stab binding book using your completed examples / experiments will be completed if time permits
